Simon Robertson (GDC: 65840)
Simon qualified in 1990 from the University of Bristol. After a year of vocational training Simon joined the practice in 1992.
He enjoys looking after his patients in a kind and caring environment and to a very high standard. Simon has an interest in quality general and cosmetic dentistry. In 1998 he undertook a year long post-graduate course in the different implant systems available and has been placing Straumann implants since.
Simon is a member of the ITI (International Team for Implantology) and both the Bristol and South West implant study groups.
Outside of dentistry Simon enjoys family life and a healthy interest in cycling, cricket, the garden, dog walking and being outdoors.
Menna Down (GDC: 244111)
Ever since graduation from University of Bristol, Menna Down has been passionately committed to providing the best possible care for patients. Menna’s passion and talent for dentistry, along with a gentle approach, never fail to put her patients at ease.
Menna enjoys extensive further training across a wide range of restorative dentistry disciplines, including the latest minimally-invasive techniques. She has completed Dr Christopher Orr’s prestigious Aesthetic and Cosmetic Restorative Course and has also trained at the world-renowned Spear Pathway in Arizona, US.
Menna’s eye for detail, her craftsman’s approach and clinical skill will help you to feel confident of being in excellent hands.
Menna especially loves working with dental phobics and nervous patients. She enjoys a loyal following of fans who were once terrified of visiting the clinic.
Outside dentistry, Menna enjoys floristry, interior design and staying fit. She is also a food lover who loves to collect recipes while travelling.
Alfonso Rao (GDC: 172344)
Dr Alfonso Rao graduated with distinction from the University of Chiet in native Italy. He went on to work as an oral surgeon in Pescara, Napoli and Caserta before moving to the UK in 2009.
Since then, Alfonso has remained committed to furthering his knowledge and skills with training in implantology at London’s prestigious Eastman Institute. He also holds a Masters from Los Angeles’ Global Institute for Dental Education.
Alfonso’s postgraduate training allows him to achieve stunning smile transformations using single and full implants, as well as carry out denture stabilisation procedures. He also enjoys extensive experience with the revolutionary Straumann Pro Arch Teeth in a Day treatment.
He also has an interest in orthodontics and straightening, especially Invisalign and Six Month Smiles. He uses these in combination with whitening, crowns, veneers and other cosmetic treatments to create outstanding smile makeovers.
Alfonso is a passionate proponent of modern and digital dentistry techniques like 3D scanning and smile design software, which he uses to wonderful effect here at Portishead Dental Clinic.
Outside the clinic, Alfonso is often found passing on knowledge to fellow dentists as an implantology trainer. He is also an accredited Straumann mentor and member of the Association of Dental Implantology.
Dominic Sinson (GDC No: 194463)
Dominic is a GDC registered specialist periodontist. He has an interest in improving patients smiles with cosmetic gum contouring and soft tissue grafting, providing dental implants, bone augmentation and managing implant disease.
Dominic graduated in Dentistry from Cardiff University following which he gained significant experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
He subsequently completed a 4 year training program in Periodontics and Implantology with Kings College London at Guys Dental Hospital achieving a Masters in Periodontology and Clinical Dentistry with distinction. He has acquired the most up-to-date and evidence-based techniques in both Periodontics and Implantology becoming a registered Specialist in Periodontics.
He is passionate about periodontics and implants which is shown in his approach to achieving the best care for his patients and his involvement in teaching on the undergraduate program at Kings College London and to qualified dentists within the UK.
Rebecca Wignall (GDC: 227480)
Dentist / Medical aesthetician
I am a practicing and fully registered dentist as well as an medical aesthetician.
I offer a range of treatments for anti-ageing as well as enhancements, based on a full consultation. My aim is to make people feel like the best version of themselves, I want people to say “Wow, you look great!”.
I have been working as an aesthetic practitioner for over 5 years. I have completed a range of aesthetics courses since beginning my aesthetic practice, including Botox training, Dermal filler training, a Lip Masters course. I am an Obagi skincare provider and a Profhilo practitioner.
I aim to make safety my priority, I have completed The Complications course with SkinViva Training Academy which is unique putting patient safety as the centre of aesthetics.
Frederico Ferreira (GDC: 117443)
I worked as a dental nurse for 5 years in my native Scotland before relocating to Bristol to study dental hygiene where I graduated in 2017.
I have since worked in NHS and private practices in both Scotland and Bristol.
I enjoy meeting patients and helping them to look after their smile. I particularly enjoy working with nervous patients and get a real sense of achievement from helping them overcome their phobias.
Outside of dentistry I enjoy hill walking, yoga and spending time with my family.
Megan Knight (GDC: 272605)
Originally from the Peak District, Megan has been a proud Bristolian since 2014.
Megan gained her dental hygiene qualification from the University of Bristol in 2019 when her dissertation was awarded Best Research Project by the British Society of Dental Hygienists and Therapists. Megan has since presented the findings of her dissertation at the society’s regional meetings across the UK.
As well as working at The Dental Clinic in Portishead, Megan also works at a specialist periodontal (gum health) clinic. In both roles, she particularly enjoys helping nervous and anxious patients to feel at ease.
Outside the clinic, Megan is a volunteer for the GoodGym charity with which she has pledged to run to see an elderly or isolated person each week.
Megan also enjoys the great outdoors and travel with her fiance. The couple can often be found in their vintage VW campervan along the South West Coastal Path, where they enjoy walking, paddleboarding, surfing and other activities.
