Aesthetic Fixed Braces

Having braces isn’t something many of us look forward to. There’s a chance you could be thinking about the ugly, metal braces your friends may have had as teenagers. If this kind of thought that is putting you off getting treatment, aesthetic fixed braces could be just the thing you’re looking for.

What are aesthetic fixed braces?

Just like regular fixed braces, aesthetic fixed braces stay in place for the duration of your treatment, and they are tightened every so often until you and your dentist are happy with the position that your teeth have achieved.

But where traditional braces use metal brackets and wires, aesthetic braces use ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured wires to achieve a much more discreet straightening experience.

What is the process of having a fixed brace fitted?

We will first take an impression of your teeth, and x-ray your mouth to make sure that there are no underlying issues that need to be dealt with first. Once we have done this, we will be able to fit your brace and arrange further appointments to see how you are progressing.

At each appointment, we will tighten the brace a little, as this means that your teeth can be encouraged into the correct position. When we are happy with where your teeth are, which can be after anywhere from six months to two years, we will remove the brace, revealing your all-new straighter smile.

How do I take care of my teeth while I have a fixed brace fitted?

Dental care is, if anything, even more important than before when you have a brace fitted.

You should brush, floss and use mouthwash daily, and continue to attend regular appointments at our Portishead surgery so that we can ensure that your teeth are as healthy as possible during your treatment. If you follow our advice and take care of your teeth, you should find that fixed braces can be a great way to get the smile that you have been hoping for.
